Is it suitable to wear braces if you have high cheekbones?
Disease description:
Due to severe protrusion of my teeth (both upper and lower), I am considering orthodontic treatment. I’ve heard that wearing braces may alter facial shape—so I’d like to ask: if I have high cheekbones, can braces improve this feature?
Hello, high cheekbones do not interfere with wearing orthodontic appliances (braces) for dental correction. However, orthodontic treatment cannot address the issue of prominent cheekbones. In adults, orthodontic treatment can only correct dental and alveolar bone-related deformities by repositioning teeth. During the jawbone growth period in children and adolescents, functional appliances may also influence jaw development. Since the zygomatic bone (cheekbone) is anatomically separate from the alveolar bone, orthodontic treatment alone cannot resolve prominence of the zygomatic bones. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health!
