Is there still radiation after the computer is shut down?

Disease description:

I am 33 years old this year and currently 28 weeks pregnant. When my mother visited me recently, she suddenly pointed at the computer in my bedroom and mentioned that it emits radiation. I told her that I no longer use the computer and that it is usually turned off. However, she still believes that simply having the computer in the room emits radiation. I would like to ask doctors whether a computer emits radiation even when it is turned off?

Computers typically emit no radiation after being shut down. While a computer is operating, its internal electronic components generate electromagnetic radiation, which is a normal phenomenon during the operation of electronic devices. Once the computer is turned off, these electronic components stop working, and electric current no longer flows, so no electromagnetic radiation is produced. Although the power adapter may still be connected to the electrical outlet after the computer is shut down, the radiation emitted while in standby mode is extremely low and has almost no impact on human health. Additionally, internal hardware components such as the motherboard and graphics card also stop working after shutdown and no longer emit radiation.

In daily life, to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure, it is recommended to completely shut down the computer and unplug the power cord when it is not in use. This ensures that the computer and its peripheral devices are completely powered off and emit no radiation. Meanwhile, for individuals who use computers for extended periods—such as office workers and gamers—it is advisable to take appropriate radiation protection measures, such as using anti-radiation glasses, maintaining an appropriate distance from the screen, and taking regular breaks, in order to minimize the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the body.
