Can Compound Alginic Acid Esters Suppositories be used for a long time?
I have been using Proctosedyl suppositories for hemorrhoids for a while, and I feel the effect is quite good. However, I'm a bit concerned. Is it safe to use this medication long-term? Could there be any side effects?

In general, it is not recommended to use Compound Carrageenan Suppositories for a prolonged period.
Compound Carrageenan Suppositories are commonly used to treat anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoids and anal fissures. The main ingredients include carrageenan and glycerin. Carrageenan provides effective lubrication and protection, helping to relieve pain, itching, and discomfort in the anal area, while glycerin softens stools and promotes bowel movements, thereby reducing irritation to the anal region.
However, long-term use of Compound Carrageenan Suppositories may lead to some adverse effects, such as itching, redness, and pain in the perianal skin, and even skin atrophy. In addition, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide contained in the medication may affect normal intestinal function and potentially cause constipation if used over a prolonged period.
Patients are advised to follow their physician's instructions when using Compound Carrageenan Suppositories, adhering strictly to the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment. If any discomfort or worsening of symptoms occurs during use, medical attention should be sought promptly, and the treating physician should be informed of the medication being used.
