It is not necessarily normal for pregnant women to experience buttock pain; it may be physiological pain during pregnancy. However, if it is accompanied by other abnormal symptoms, it might not be normal and medical attention should be sought. In most cases, buttock pain during pregnancy is caused by the growing uterus gradually pressing on the sciatic nerve, tailbone, and surrounding tissues. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can also lead to relaxation of the pelvic joints and ligaments, causing physiological pain. Additionally, weight gain, maintaining the same posture for prolonged periods, and calcium deficiency during pregnancy may also contribute to buttock pain. This type of pain usually worsens gradually as the pregnancy progresses but often subsides after delivery. If the buttock pain persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, redness, swelling, or severe pain, it may indicate an abnormal condition and prompt medical attention is advised.

To alleviate buttock pain during pregnancy, it is recommended to maintain proper sitting and standing postures and avoid standing or sitting for extended periods. Engage in gentle stretching exercises, such as walking or prenatal yoga. Use suitable cushions to reduce pressure on the buttocks. Ensure adequate calcium intake by consuming calcium-rich foods like milk, eggs, and tofu. Additionally, physical therapies such as warm compresses or massage may also help relieve the pain. If the pain significantly affects daily life, medical consultation should be sought promptly.
