Will sunburned skin turn black?
I am 20 years old this year. Recently, my skin turned bright red after going out and getting sunburned. I'm very worried that my skin might turn dark. I would like to know whether sunburned skin will become darker.

In general, sunburned skin may turn darker, but this darkening is not permanent. When further ultraviolet (UV) exposure is avoided, the skin's natural metabolism will gradually eliminate the excess melanin, and the skin color will slowly return to its original state.
Sunburn is a natural reaction of the skin to UV radiation, typically表现为 skin redness, warmth, and sometimes mild pain or a burning sensation. If the skin is exposed to UV radiation only briefly and timely sun protection and skin-repair measures are taken, sunburned skin may not necessarily darken. However, if the skin is exposed to intense UV radiation for prolonged periods without adequate protection and care, sunburned skin is more likely to darken. This occurs because UV radiation stimulates melanocytes in the skin to produce more melanin to protect the skin from further UV damage. When excessive melanin accumulates in the skin, it can lead to skin darkening.
Sunburned skin may darken, but the extent varies from person to person. To prevent darkening after sunburn, proper sun protection and timely post-sun care are essential. In daily life, apply sunscreen, wear sun-protective clothing, and use wide-brimmed hats to reduce UV damage to the skin before going outdoors.
