In general, whether the harm of formaldehyde to the human body is permanent mainly depends on the concentration and duration of exposure. If the exposure concentration is low and the duration is short, the effects are usually not permanent. However, if the exposure concentration is high or the duration is prolonged, the damage could be permanent.

Short-term exposure to high concentrations of formaldehyde may lead to acute poisoning symptoms, such as eye irritation, tearing, and throat discomfort. These symptoms are usually reversible; that is, once removed from the formaldehyde environment and with appropriate treatment, symptoms in most individuals will gradually subside and disappear.

However, long-term exposure to high levels of formaldehyde may damage the immune system, respiratory system, and even the nervous system. Additionally, formaldehyde may have adverse effects on the immune, nervous, and reproductive systems, which could be long-lasting or even lifelong.

In daily life, it is recommended to maintain good indoor ventilation, use environmentally friendly building materials, and regularly monitor indoor air quality to help reduce formaldehyde exposure.
