Feeding potatoes to babies may potentially cause gas. Potatoes contain significant amounts of starch and cellulose, which can produce gas during digestion, leading to bloating or abdominal distension. This is especially true for infants whose digestive systems have not yet fully matured. In addition, if the potatoes are not thoroughly cooked, their larger starch particles can be harder to digest and may further increase the risk of gas formation.

When feeding potatoes to your baby, ensure they are fully cooked until soft and tender, making them easier to digest. When introducing potatoes for the first time, start with a small amount and observe your baby's reaction. If there are no signs of discomfort, gradually increase the quantity. Mix potatoes with other easily digestible foods, such as carrot puree or apple puree, to balance nutrition and reduce the likelihood of discomfort from a single food source. Pay attention to your baby's overall diet, ensuring variety and avoiding excessive intake of high-starch foods. After feeding, gently massage your baby's abdomen to help stimulate intestinal motility and facilitate gas release. If your baby experiences persistent bloating, abdominal pain, or other adverse symptoms, consult a pediatrician promptly.
