Recently, during a hospital checkup, my doctor mentioned that I might need to undergo a cervical excision procedure. Will this surgery require hospitalization? I'm in generally good health, but I'm somewhat concerned about the recovery process afterward.

In general, cervical excision surgery requires hospitalization.

Cervical excision surgery itself is a relatively complex procedure that must be performed under general anesthesia. There is a certain risk of bleeding, infection, or other complications after surgery. Even when using minimally invasive techniques such as LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure), although the trauma is smaller and recovery is faster, postoperative complications may still occur, necessitating hospitalization for close monitoring of vaginal bleeding and timely intervention if needed.

If more complex procedures such as radical cervical excision or extensive hysterectomy are performed, these surgeries are usually used to treat cervical cancer or other severe diseases. They involve greater trauma to the patient's body and slower postoperative recovery. Serious complications such as infection and bleeding are more likely to occur after surgery. Patients require more intensive care and hospitalization is typically necessary. During hospitalization, medical staff can regularly change wound dressings, monitor the amount and characteristics of drainage fluid, ensure proper wound healing, and reduce the risk of infection.

After surgery, patients are advised to maintain healthy lifestyle habits, follow a light diet, and avoid strenuous exercise to facilitate a quicker recovery.
