Heart rate refers to the number of times the heart beats per minute in a normal person at rest. For adults, the normal heart rate range is 60-100 beats per minute.

It should be noted that athletes who have undergone long-term physical training may have a resting heart rate lower than 60 beats per minute, even as low as approximately 40 beats per minute. This is usually an indication of good cardiovascular health rather than a disease state. During anger, emotional excitement, or vigorous exercise, the heart rate may exceed 100 beats per minute, but this usually does not last long.

However, if the heart rate continuously exceeds 100 beats per minute or falls below 60 beats per minute, it may indicate the presence of heart problems or other health conditions. For example, hyperthyroidism, anemia, dehydration, anxiety, or medication side effects can all cause tachycardia. Bradycardia may be related to issues with the heart's conduction system, hypothyroidism, or medication use.

If the heart rate frequently falls outside the normal range or is accompanied by symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, dizziness, or other discomforts, prompt medical evaluation is advised to determine whether there is an underlying health issue.
