Disease description:

I am a 25-year-old female. I had a wisdom tooth extracted yesterday, and now my tooth socket is still bleeding slightly. I'm wondering if this situation is normal, and whether the tooth socket will heal after the extraction.

After a tooth extraction, the resulting socket typically heals naturally, but requires time and proper care. Following the extraction, the alveolar bone and gum tissues gradually repair themselves, and a blood clot forms within the socket to serve as the foundation for healing. Subsequently, new soft and bone tissues progressively fill the socket, eventually completing the healing process. This process may take several weeks to several months, depending on individual physical condition, the location of the extracted tooth, and the extent of trauma. If infection occurs or the blood clot becomes dislodged after extraction, the healing process may be affected.

To promote proper healing of the socket, post-extraction care should follow the dentist's instructions. On the day of surgery, avoid rinsing the mouth and spitting forcefully to protect the stability of the blood clot. Choose warm, soft foods and avoid hot, hard, or spicy foods that may irritate the wound. Maintain good oral hygiene by gently brushing teeth starting the day after surgery, while avoiding the extraction site. If the dentist recommends using an antimicrobial mouthwash, follow the instructions provided to reduce the risk of infection. If severe pain, persistent bleeding, or increasing swelling occurs, seek medical attention promptly to ensure uninterrupted healing.
