Is it normal to have continuous lochia after induced labor?
I am a 28-year-old female. One month ago, I underwent an induced abortion. Since the surgery, I have continuously experienced lochia discharge, and it has not completely stopped until now. This situation concerns me, and I wonder whether persistent lochia after induced abortion is considered normal?

It is normal for lochia to continue for a certain period after induced labor; however, prolonged duration may indicate abnormalities. Normally, lochia following induced labor lasts approximately 2 to 6 weeks. Initially, it appears darker in color, gradually turning淡red or yellow before stopping altogether. Lochia consists of blood, shed endometrial tissue, mucus, and other substances expelled from the uterus after childbirth or induced labor. If the lochia is excessive in volume, has an abnormal color, is accompanied by a foul odor, or is associated with abdominal pain, these symptoms may suggest poor uterine recovery or infection. Induced labor significantly impacts the body, and the uterus requires a certain amount of time to fully recover; therefore, close monitoring of lochia changes is essential.
It is recommended to maintain good hygiene after the procedure, avoid tub baths and sexual intercourse to prevent infection. If lochia persists beyond 6 weeks or abnormal symptoms such as those mentioned above occur, prompt medical evaluation is necessary to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment. Adequate rest should be taken to avoid excessive fatigue, and a diet rich in protein and iron is beneficial for physical recovery. Regular follow-up examinations should be conducted to assess uterine recovery and ensure overall health. Through proper care and timely intervention, postpartum recovery can be effectively promoted and complications can be prevented.
