Does taking melatonin make you whiter?
Skin darkening has always troubled me. May I ask if taking melatonin can make my skin lighter?
Taking melatonin will not whiten your skin.
Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the human pineal gland, whose primary function is to regulate circadian rhythm and sleep cycles. It has no direct connection with skin pigmentation. Skin color is mainly determined by melanin and is influenced by various factors including genetics, sun exposure, and endocrine changes. To improve skin tone, comprehensive measures such as scientific sun protection, proper skincare, balanced diet, and sufficient sleep are more effective. Blindly taking melatonin not only fails to achieve the desired skin-lightening effect, but may also trigger a range of health problems, such as sleep disorders and mood swings, due to hormonal imbalances.
If you want to improve your skin tone, it is recommended to start with sun protection, skincare, a balanced diet, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Do not use melatonin for skin whitening, and consult a doctor if necessary.
