What is eye corner opening surgery?
Recently, I have been learning about double eyelid surgery and often come across the term "opening the inner corner of the eye," but I don't fully understand it. I'm not clear on what exactly "opening the inner corner of the eye" entails and what changes it can bring to the eyes.

Epicanthoplasty, medically known as medial epicanthus correction or lateral canthoplasty, is a common cosmetic plastic surgery aimed at altering the shape of the eyes to make them appear larger and brighter, thereby enhancing the facial contour.
Epicanthoplasty can be divided into two methods: medial epicanthoplasty and lateral epicanthoplasty. Medial epicanthoplasty is suitable for patients with medial epicanthal folds, congenital small eye syndrome, or those who wish to have larger eyes. Common surgical techniques include the "V-Y" suture method, "Z" plasty, and the four-flap technique, with the specific method chosen based on the patient's individual condition.
Although epicanthoplasty can improve the appearance of the eyes, as a surgical procedure it carries certain risks and potential complications, such as infection, bleeding, scar formation, and incomplete eyelid closure.
Therefore, before deciding to undergo such a procedure, patients should fully understand the risks and expected outcomes, choose an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon, and follow proper post-operative care to ensure both safety and satisfactory results.
