In most cases, amblyopia can be treated and improved; however, the treatment outcome and the possibility of complete recovery depend on multiple factors.

Amblyopia is a condition that develops during childhood visual development. It refers to reduced vision in one or both eyes due to various causes, which cannot be corrected by glasses. It is not an eye disease itself, but rather a problem with how the brain processes visual information from the eyes. Amblyopia typically develops early in childhood, and if not treated promptly during this critical period, it may lead to permanent vision impairment.

The key to treatment lies in early detection and intervention. For children, the optimal treatment period is before age six, as the brain's plasticity is strongest during this time, making it easier to correct visual problems through training. Treatment methods include wearing special glasses or contact lenses, covering the stronger eye to force the use of the amblyopic eye, and performing vision therapy, all aimed at stimulating visual development in the affected eye and encouraging the brain to relearn how to properly process information from that eye.

Treating amblyopia is not a quick process; it requires active cooperation from both the patient and family, as well as ongoing attention and guidance from a physician. Additionally, for organic lesions such as amblyopia caused by congenital cataracts or ptosis, surgical treatment may also be required initially to remove the underlying cause.
