Is a vision of 4.8 considered nearsightedness?
I recently discovered during a medical checkup that my vision is 4.8. In daily life, I find the text on distant bus stop signs somewhat blurry, and while driving, I react more slowly to distant traffic signs. I would like to ask, does this count as myopia?

Visual acuity of 4.8 is generally slightly below the normal range but does not directly equate to myopia.
Myopia, medically termed "myopia" or "myopic refractive error," is an optical condition of the eye characterized by parallel light rays focusing in front of the retina, resulting in blurred vision of distant objects. The determination of myopia mainly relies on refractive diopter measurements obtained through an optometric examination.
Visual acuity of 4.8 may indicate mild vision decline, which could be caused by refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism. However, a professional optometric examination is necessary to accurately determine whether myopia is present and to establish its exact degree.
In children, visual acuity of 4.8 may be more complex. Since children's eyes are not fully developed, their visual acuity typically improves with age. Therefore, a visual acuity of 4.8 in children does not necessarily indicate myopia; it could also be a normal physiological phenomenon.
If visual acuity of 4.8 is detected, it is recommended to promptly visit an ophthalmologist for appropriate intervention.
