Can I eat before a follow-up examination for hyperthyroidism?
I previously had hyperthyroidism and am going for a follow-up examination tomorrow. I just wanted to ask, will I be able to eat in the morning on the day of the follow-up? Will eating affect the examination results?

Hyperthyroidism refers to an overactive thyroid gland. Under normal circumstances, patients can eat before a follow-up examination for hyperthyroidism.
Eating generally does not significantly affect the results of most tests during a follow-up for hyperthyroidism. Considering tests that may be performed, such as thyroid hormone level testing and thyroid ultrasound, eating does not notably influence these results. However, if a patient needs to undergo other specific tests or treatments, specific dietary requirements might apply.
Patients should avoid consuming foods high in iodine, such as kelp and nori, during follow-up visits, as these may affect test results. Additionally, certain medications can interfere with thyroid function tests, including iodine-containing preparations, lithium salts, and some antiarrhythmic drugs. Therefore, before the follow-up examination, patients should inform their doctor of all medications they are currently taking, so the doctor can determine whether adjustments to the testing protocol or medication usage are necessary.
During follow-up examinations for hyperthyroidism, patients are advised to follow their doctor's instructions to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test results.
