Children with a runny nose may have allergic rhinitis, especially if symptoms occur after exposure to pollen or cold air. It is likely an allergy to cold air or pollen, so prompt medical evaluation is recommended. For this type of allergic rhinitis, symptomatic treatment with topical glucocorticoid nasal spray and oral montelukast sodium tablets can be used. Further exposure to cold should be avoided, and wearing a mask when going outdoors is advised.
