Our child has been complaining of some mouth pain today. Upon examination, white patches were found on the tongue. My husband thinks it might be a canker sore. May I ask, what are some effective remedies for children with canker sores?

Dr. Zhou Xiaofeng

Effective methods for treating mouth sores in children depend on the specific condition. If the sores are caused by oral ulcers, it is advisable to supplement certain vitamins under a doctor's guidance, commonly vitamin B and vitamin C. Additionally, some topical medications can be applied, such as recombinant human epidermal growth factor gel and lidocaine hydrochloride gel. If the child develops thrush, antifungal medications like miconazole nitrate suppositories may be used, along with rinsing the mouth with a sodium bicarbonate solution.
