Early symptoms of conjunctivitis in children
My child is 10 years old and often has eye discharge. A friend mentioned it might be conjunctivitis. What are the early symptoms of conjunctivitis?

Conjunctivitis is a very common eye disease. Its initial symptoms include significant eye redness and increased eye discharge, which is typically yellowish-white pus. Patients often experience a foreign body sensation, burning, photophobia, tearing, and mild vision loss. If there is excessive eye discharge, the conjunctival sac can be rinsed with normal saline. However, care must be taken during washing to prevent the cleaning solution from flowing into the other eye to avoid cross-infection. It is also important to ensure the child gets adequate rest, drinks plenty of water, and frequently washes hands to avoid touching the eyes with dirty hands. Conjunctivitis is contagious. If a child is diagnosed with conjunctivitis, isolation measures should be implemented. If symptoms do not improve, prompt medical attention is necessary.
