Why does a child have a runny nose with yellow mucus when they have a cold?
Disease description:
My cousin has recently caught a cold with yellow nasal discharge. I would like to ask what might be causing this?

A child having a common cold with yellow nasal discharge may be caused by a bacterial infection or could be due to chronic rhinitis. If the cold is caused by a bacterial infection, the child can take medications such as amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium granules under a doctor's guidance. If it is due to chronic rhinitis, medications like budesonide nasal spray can be used as directed by a physician to alleviate symptoms. However, please note that budesonide nasal spray should only be used by children aged six years or older.
