Is it okay if the abdomen wasn't pressed after a vaginal delivery?
I had a vaginal delivery, but no one pressed on my abdomen throughout the entire process. Now I'm feeling a bit anxious. Is everything okay if the abdomen wasn't pressed after a vaginal birth?

Whether there is a problem or not after a vaginal delivery without abdominal compression depends on the specific condition of the mother. If the mother is in good physical condition, not performing abdominal compression generally does not lead to significant issues. However, if the mother has a weak constitution or experienced complications during vaginal delivery, not applying abdominal pressure may cause problems.
Abdominal compression after vaginal delivery is a common practice aimed at promoting uterine contractions, aiding in hemostasis (stopping bleeding), and expelling postpartum residues, thereby accelerating uterine recovery. If the mother is in good health and experiences strong uterine contractions, not performing abdominal compression may not lead to major complications. The uterus can gradually return to its normal size through its own contractile ability, while closing the blood vessels at the placental separation site to achieve hemostasis.
However, if complications such as placental adhesion, retained placental tissue, or poor uterine contraction occur during vaginal delivery, omitting abdominal compression may pose certain risks. Additionally, if the mother is physically weak, early abdominal compression might place extra strain on her body and hinder recovery. In such cases, abdominal compression is usually required to assist uterine contraction, help expel residual tissue, or promptly detect bleeding so that further interventions can be implemented.
During the postpartum recovery period, the mother should also focus on rest and nutrition, avoid strenuous activities and excessive fatigue, and promote overall recovery. In addition, regular postpartum checkups should be conducted to detect and address any potential issues in a timely manner.
