Is double eyelid surgery painful?
I've always wanted to have double eyelid surgery, but I'm really afraid of pain. I'd like to ask if double eyelid surgery is painful.
During double eyelid surgery, patients generally do not feel pain, although they may experience some pulling or discomfort. Pain may occur after the surgery, but the specific experience varies from person to person.
Prior to the surgery, doctors will administer local anesthesia to ensure the surgical area is pain-free. Patients will not feel significant pain throughout the procedure. Local anesthesia not only reduces pain but also makes the surgical process safer and smoother. There may be a slight stinging sensation when the anesthetic is injected, but this pain is temporary and tolerable for most people.
In the early postoperative period, mild swelling, bruising, or tightness may occur. These are normal physiological reactions that usually subside gradually within several days to one week. Doctors will prescribe appropriate pain medication based on individual conditions to help alleviate discomfort. Additionally, following medical advice and properly caring for the surgical site—such as applying cold compresses and avoiding strenuous activities—can also help reduce postoperative discomfort and promote recovery.
As individuals differ in physical condition and sensitivity, the actual experience may vary. It is recommended to have thorough communication with the doctor before surgery to understand the entire surgical process and precautions, and to be mentally prepared.
