The Best Treatment Method for Ophthalmoplegia
After my eye muscle paralysis, I experience double vision and limited eye movement, which greatly affects my daily life. I would like to ask if there is a best treatment method available?

It is recommended to treat the underlying cause. If the ophthalmoplegia is caused by infection, tumor, vascular disease, or autoimmune disease, treatment should be directed at the primary condition. For example, in cases caused by diabetes, blood glucose levels should be controlled; if caused by infection, antibiotics or antiviral medications should be administered.
For ophthalmoplegia caused by specific conditions such as myasthenia gravis, cholinesterase inhibitors can be used to improve symptoms. Hormones or immunosuppressants may be employed to treat autoimmune-related ocular muscle disorders. For ophthalmoplegia of unknown origin, antibiotics and glucocorticoids may be used for treatment. Additionally, vitamin B1, vitamin B12, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) can aid in the recovery of nerve function.
Acupuncture has shown significant efficacy in treating ophthalmoplegia. Based on the treatment principles of strengthening the spleen, eliminating dampness, dispelling wind, and promoting circulation of Qi and blood through the meridians, acupuncture at specific points can help restore strength to the eye muscles. If ophthalmoplegia persists for more than six months and the condition is stable, strabismus surgery to correct the paralysis-induced misalignment may be considered after evaluation by an ophthalmology specialist, in order to alleviate asymmetric eye movement and eliminate symptoms of double vision.
