Disease description:

The optometry result says there is only astigmatism without myopia, but vision appears double and blurry. Is wearing glasses necessary in this case? Will not wearing glasses worsen the astigmatism?

Whether or not glasses are needed for astigmatism without myopia mainly depends on the degree of astigmatism. If it is mild astigmatism, glasses are generally not required. However, if the astigmatism is significant, glasses will be necessary.

If the astigmatism is mild, usually less than 100 degrees, and does not affect daily activities such as reading or driving, glasses may not be necessary. However, regular eye examinations are important, as astigmatism may change with age. Timely checkups can ensure optimal visual acuity by updating prescriptions as needed.

If the astigmatism is severe, or even if the degree is not high but already noticeably affects visual quality—for example, causing blurred vision, double vision, or eye fatigue—then wearing corrective glasses becomes very important. Glasses help provide clearer vision, reduce eye strain, and prevent further vision deterioration or other eye problems caused by prolonged blurry vision.

Upon detecting astigmatism, it is recommended to promptly visit a professional ophthalmic medical facility for examination, and decide whether glasses are necessary according to the doctor's advice and your individual circumstances.
