How to treat loose teeth
My teeth have become significantly loose recently, and I feel weak when biting. They also ache from time to time. I'd like to ask what treatment options are available?
For teeth loosened due to trauma, minor cases may only require observation, allowing the tooth to recover naturally. Severe injuries might necessitate the use of a dental arch splint to stabilize the tooth and help it re-establish stability within the alveolar bone.
For teeth loosened as a result of periodontal disease, the primary goal is to control inflammation. This involves removing dental plaque and tartar through procedures such as scaling and root planing, and, when necessary, performing periodontal surgery, such as flap surgery or bone grafting, to reconstruct the periodontal tissues.
If tooth loosening is caused by apical periodontitis, root canal treatment is an effective option. This primarily aims at controlling the inflammation, and once the acute inflammation subsides, the tooth's mobility may decrease or even resolve. If the loosening is due to occlusal problems, adjustment and treatment by a professional dentist are necessary.
Maintaining good oral hygiene is key to preventing and treating loose teeth. This includes brushing your teeth twice daily, using dental floss to clean between teeth, and visiting a dental clinic regularly for professional cleaning and checkups.
