How to treat toothache
The toothache is severe, and the pain intensifies when consuming cold or hot foods. At times, there are also episodes of sharp, throbbing pain. I can't bear it anymore—please help me understand how to treat it!
If the pain is caused by dental caries, depending on the size of the cavity, either filling treatment or root canal therapy may be selected. Minor caries can be repaired with dental fillings; if the cavity has reached the dental pulp, root canal treatment may be required.
For tooth pain caused by inflammation, such as apical periodontitis or gingivitis, anti-inflammatory antibiotics such as metronidazole and cefprozil may be selected. Meanwhile, analgesics such as ibuprofen and sodium diclofenac can effectively relieve tooth pain. Antiallergic medications, such as chlorpheniramine maleate and loratadine, are suitable for pain caused by tooth hypersensitivity.
For pain caused by periodontal disease, deep scaling (curettage) and root planing are required; severe cases may require surgical treatment along with medication. For tooth pain caused by pulpitis, pulpotomy and drainage procedures are effective treatments that rapidly relieve pressure within the pulp chamber and reduce pain. For tooth pain caused by dental caries, root canal treatment can remove decayed tissue and fill the cavity, addressing the underlying problem.
Regular dental checkups and teeth cleaning, maintaining good oral hygiene habits, reducing sugar intake, and brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste are all important methods for preventing dental diseases.
