Why is my abdomen bloated and constipated?
I've been experiencing frequent bloating and constipation recently, with bowel movements only every few days, causing significant abdominal discomfort. I haven't consumed foods that typically cause gas, and this condition has persisted for about two weeks. What could be the possible causes?

Abdominal bloating accompanied by constipation may involve multiple causes and should be analyzed from the perspective of physiological functions and pathological changes in the digestive system.
Dietary indiscretion is a common cause. Excessive intake of food, especially greasy, spicy, or hard-to-digest foods, can easily lead to accumulation of food in the intestines, affect normal bowel movements, and consequently cause abdominal bloating and constipation. It is recommended to maintain a light, easily digestible diet and consume more fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
Constipation may result from insufficient dietary fiber intake, inadequate hydration, slowed intestinal motility, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, or gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease.
It is recommended to adjust the diet by increasing dietary fiber intake, drinking an adequate amount of water, exercising regularly, and avoiding gas-producing foods and rapid eating. If symptoms persist, prompt medical consultation is advised for detailed history taking, physical examination, and necessary diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.
