Disease description:

I am a 28-year-old female who recently received fractional laser treatment, primarily to improve acne scars on my face. After the treatment, I would like to know what changes my skin might experience and what precautions I should take. Could you please tell me what happens to the skin after fractional laser treatment?

Dr. Liu Wenmin

After fractional laser treatment, the skin will undergo a process of repair and regeneration. Following the treatment, redness, swelling, mild pain, or a stinging sensation may appear on the skin surface; these are normal reactions. As the skin heals itself, these discomforts will gradually subside. In the following days, crusting and peeling may occur in the treated area, which is a necessary part of skin renewal. During this period, the skin may appear relatively dry and requires special attention to moisturizing and care.

After receiving fractional laser treatment, it is recommended to keep the treated area clean and avoid touching or scratching it with your hands to prevent infection. Use skincare products recommended by your physician, especially those with soothing and moisturizing effects, to help alleviate discomfort. Avoid using skincare products containing irritating ingredients such as alcohol or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), as these ingredients may increase skin sensitivity. Until the skin has fully recovered, avoid exposure to sunlight and apply a high SPF sunscreen when going outdoors. Wearing a hat or using an umbrella can also help protect the skin from UV damage. If severe discomfort or abnormal conditions occur, contact your doctor promptly.
