Can patients with gallstones eat eggs?
My friend is 22 years old and was recently diagnosed with gallstones. I would like to know whether patients with gallstones can eat eggs.

In general, patients with gallstones can eat eggs, but they should do so in moderation.
Eggs are a nutrient-rich food, containing high-quality protein, amino acids, trace elements, and other nutrients. Moderate consumption is beneficial for nutritional supplementation and enhancing immunity in patients with gallstones. However, the yolk contains high levels of cholesterol and lecithin, which may increase the frequency and intensity of gallbladder contractions when consumed in excess, potentially triggering biliary colic or cholecystitis.
Patients with gallstones should also avoid high-fat, high-sugar, and high-salt foods, and instead consume more fiber-rich vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Maintaining regular eating habits and avoiding overeating are helpful for managing the condition. If the gallbladder has already been removed, eggs have a minimal impact on digestion, but overall fat intake should still be monitored.
In terms of diet, patients should follow the principles of low fat, low cholesterol, and high fiber to maintain good health. If discomfort occurs after eating, consumption should be stopped immediately and dietary adjustments made. Consulting a hepatobiliary surgeon or nutritionist is recommended when necessary.
