What causes carotid artery plaque?
Disease description:
I’m not sure what happened, but my paternal aunt developed vascular plaque on her neck.
Carotid vascular plaques are often caused by atherosclerosis, primarily resulting from conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Typically, stable plaques do not cause symptoms; however, if they enlarge, they may lead to cerebral infarction, stroke, and other serious complications, necessitating prompt medical evaluation and treatment.
