Dietary supplements are not intended for the treatment of diseases. While they may help enhance the body’s resistance and immune function—and thus serve as an adjunctive therapy—they should not be used directly to treat diseases. There is a wide variety of dietary supplements available, and selection should be based on individual health needs. For individuals in good health, long-term use of dietary supplements is generally unnecessary; maintaining a balanced diet with nutrient-rich foods is usually sufficient.
