What Is a Patellar Comminuted Fracture?
Disease description:
My wife fell while playing soccer, and the doctor diagnosed her with a comminuted patellar fracture. What exactly is a comminuted patellar fracture?
Comminuted patellar fracture is a bone break caused by violent external force, such as blunt trauma or impact, to the patellofemoral joint. If there is no significant displacement of the patella, conservative management may be appropriate—patients should minimize weight-bearing activities such as walking and jumping. However, if the displacement exceeds 3 mm, surgical intervention is required to restore normal function and promote healing.
