What Is a Colonic Lipoma?
Disease description:
I’ve recently noticed blood in my stool, and a hospital examination diagnosed me with a colonic lipoma. What is a colonic lipoma?
Colonic lipomas are fatty masses that develop within the muscular layer of the colon. Most are benign lesions; however, as they grow, they may compress the intestinal lumen, leading to luminal narrowing. This can result in constipation, loose or unformed stools, and, in severe cases, intestinal obstruction or hematochezia. Laparoscopic surgical resection is a viable treatment option.
