Why Do Pupils Dilate?
Disease description:
This morning, I discussed with a colleague why human pupils dilate, but we couldn’t determine the underlying cause. Could you please explain why pupils dilate?
There are numerous causes of pupil dilation. For instance, if a patient has been in a dimly lit environment for an extended period and is then suddenly exposed to bright light, their pupils may dilate. Pupil dilation can also result from certain medications—for example, some anti-fatigue eye drops. Additionally, patients with glaucoma may experience pupil dilation.
