Disease description:

I’ve heard that some types of hepatitis are contagious. I have recently been diagnosed with jaundice-associated hepatitis—will this condition be contagious?

Jaundice-associated hepatitis may or may not be infectious, depending specifically on its underlying cause. Hepatitis caused by viral infection is generally contagious. While jaundice-associated hepatitis is a type of hepatitis, it is not always caused by viruses—it may also result from chronic alcohol consumption—and therefore is not necessarily contagious.
