What Are Sanfu Patches?
Disease description:
I went for moxibustion today, and the staff there recommended that I use Sanfu patches. What are Sanfu patches?
Sanfu patches are topical herbal plasters applied to specific acupoints during the “Three Fu” period—the hottest days of summer—and are used as a therapeutic method to regulate patients’ constitutional balance. These patches consist of powdered herbs—including ginger, Atractylodes lancea, clove, white mustard seed, and Asarum—applied directly onto acupoints. They help prevent and treat conditions such as cough, pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, and allergic rhinitis. The selection of acupoints varies depending on the specific condition being treated; patches should be left in place for approximately 8 hours before removal. During Sanfu patch therapy, patients should pay attention to their diet—avoiding spicy, stimulating, and cold foods. If skin allergy or other discomfort occurs after application, treatment should be discontinued immediately.
