Can Down syndrome screening determine the baby’s sex?
Disease description:
I am over four months pregnant and would like to undergo Down syndrome screening at the hospital during this period. Can Down syndrome screening determine the baby’s sex?
The Down syndrome screening test cannot determine the baby’s sex. This test is primarily used to assess whether the fetus has Down syndrome and generally cannot reveal the fetus’s gender. It is not advisable to perform sex determination arbitrarily, and current national regulations explicitly prohibit non-medical fetal sex determination. During pregnancy, the most important step is to attend regular prenatal check-ups at a hospital to continuously monitor the fetus’s growth and development.
