Why do I frequently experience coughing and vomiting upon waking up in the morning?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been experiencing coughing and vomiting immediately after waking up. I initially thought I had a cold, but I don’t have any other cold symptoms—so I’d like to understand what might be causing persistent morning coughing and vomiting.
The symptom of persistent coughing and vomiting upon waking is typically caused by redness, swelling, and edema in the pharynx following a bacterial infection, which stimulates the nerves and triggers the vomiting reflex. A laryngoscopy can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. Additionally, it is important to evaluate for chronic bronchitis, which commonly presents with cough and sputum production. Treatment may include oral expectorant and antitussive medications.
