What causes clicking, soreness, and weakness in the left knee joint when descending stairs?
Disease description:
Recently, my uncle mentioned that his left knee joint frequently produces a clicking or popping sound, and he experiences soreness, pain, and weakness when descending stairs. What could be causing this?
When inflammation occurs in the knee joint, joint crepitus (popping or cracking sounds) may be present. Additionally, if there is injury to the muscles, ligaments, or other soft tissues, patients may experience soreness, weakness, and a feeling of “giving way.” Joint crepitus accompanied by soreness, weakness, and instability are characteristic symptoms of knee arthritis as well as muscle, ligament, or soft-tissue injury. It is recommended to visit a hospital for an initial non-contrast MRI of the knee to assess the extent of the injury. If the injury is mild, symptoms can often be relieved through adequate rest and oral medication.
