What should I do for a pathological fracture of the L1 vertebra, lumbar spinal stenosis, and osteoporosis?
Disease description:
My grandfather has suffered from osteoporosis for many years and recently sustained a lumbar vertebral fracture due to trauma. He now experiences numerous lower back problems. What should be done for a pathological fracture at the first lumbar vertebra (L1), lumbar spinal stenosis, and osteoporosis?
Lumbar vertebral compression fractures—such as those caused by lumbar spinal stenosis or osteoporosis—can be managed with anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications to alleviate pain. Additionally, vitamin D supplementation combined with calcium tablets may be prescribed; however, all medications must be taken under a physician’s guidance. Physical therapy modalities—including acupuncture and electrotherapy—may be used adjunctively to promote recovery. Wearing a lumbar support brace can help protect the lumbar spine. Furthermore, incorporating calcium-rich foods into the daily diet is recommended.
