What are the clinical manifestations of right heart failure?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been experiencing significant shortness of breath, frequent nighttime urination (nocturia), and loss of appetite. After searching online, I found that these symptoms may indicate right-sided heart failure. Could you please explain the clinical manifestations of right-sided heart failure?
In addition to cardiac manifestations—such as palpitations, chest tightness, and shortness of breath—the condition primarily presents with gastrointestinal symptoms. Chronic gastrointestinal congestion may lead to anorexia, abdominal distension, nausea, and vomiting. A positive hepatojugular reflux sign may also be observed. Upon appearance of these symptoms, prompt evaluation and treatment are essential. It is recommended that the patient consult a cardiologist at a hospital and undergo relevant diagnostic tests, including complete blood count, electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, echocardiography, abdominal ultrasound (focusing on liver, gallbladder, and spleen), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) assay, to establish a definitive diagnosis and initiate appropriate therapy.
