Can patients with pancreatitis eat crab?
Disease description:
I have recently been diagnosed with pancreatitis, but I would like to eat crab. Is it safe for someone with pancreatitis to eat crab?
Patients with pancreatitis must avoid eating crab, as crab is a high-protein food that can stimulate the pancreas, thereby increasing pancreatic secretion and exacerbating symptoms. During an acute episode of pancreatitis, fasting is required for management. In addition, gastric decompression should be performed to help alleviate pain and suppress pancreatic secretion, thus preventing further pancreatic damage.
