Disease description:

The baby’s face was pale at birth, but it has turned slightly yellow now. I’m not sure what to do. Could you please tell me: Is facial yellowing in an 8-day-old baby a sign of jaundice?

In newborns, the appearance of this symptom is highly suggestive of jaundice. It is advisable to visit a reputable Grade A, Class 3 hospital for a blood test. If jaundice is confirmed, close attention must be paid to the infant’s mental status and feeding behavior. Neonatal jaundice is generally categorized into physiological and pathological types. Physiological jaundice typically resolves spontaneously within approximately seven days after onset, whereas pathological jaundice usually requires pharmacological treatment.
