What Are the Risks of a High Heart Rate?
Disease description:
This morning, during my physical examination, the doctor mentioned that my heart rate is elevated. I’m concerned this might adversely affect my health, so I’d like to learn more about the potential risks associated with a high heart rate.
An elevated heart rate suggests tachycardia, which may indicate underlying cardiac pathology—commonly including sinus tachycardia. It is recommended that you consult a cardiologist at a hospital. Diagnostic tests such as Holter monitoring (24-hour ambulatory ECG) and echocardiography may be performed to assess for any abnormalities. If necessary, medications to lower heart rate may be prescribed. Additionally, ensure adequate rest, avoid strenuous physical activity, and refrain from consuming alcohol, coffee, or other stimulant beverages. Maintain regular sleep-wake cycles.
