What Is Piriformis Syndrome?
Disease description:
I’ve been experiencing persistent pain in my gluteal muscles recently. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I was diagnosed with piriformis syndrome. What exactly is piriformis syndrome?
This refers to a syndrome in which the sciatic nerve is compressed in the region of the piriformis muscle. Its primary manifestations include pain on the lateral side of the buttock and radiating pain down the lower limb. In early-stage cases, conservative treatment—primarily pharmacotherapy—is recommended. In advanced cases, surgical intervention is required to relieve nerve compression; postoperative recovery is generally favorable.
