What Causes Low Body Temperature?
Disease description:
My body temperature has always been lower than that of the people around me, yet my body does not feel cold—I’ve had this condition for a long time. What could be causing a persistently low body temperature?
Hypothermia (low body temperature) may result from wearing insufficient clothing, leading to excessive heat loss; reduced physical activity, resulting in decreased heat production; or underlying conditions such as hypothyroidism, which lowers metabolic rate. Therefore, it is advisable to first undergo relevant tests—including thyroid function tests and a complete blood count—to assess for any underlying medical issues. If abnormalities are identified, appropriate treatment should be initiated—for instance, thyroid hormone replacement therapy for hypothyroidism.
