What should I do if I experience abdominal pain after taking amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium for a sore throat with pus?
Disease description:
My child has developed a sore throat with pus formation. After taking amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium, he/she complained of abdominal pain. What should I do?
Amoxicillin–clavulanate potassium may cause gastrointestinal irritation, leading to symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. After discontinuing the medication, abdominal pain typically resolves spontaneously over time. During this period, drink plenty of warm water to facilitate drug metabolism. Adjust your medication regimen only under the guidance of a physician. Purulent pharyngitis is caused by bacterial infection; in severe cases, intravenous therapy may be required.
