Incidental Ventricular Premature Contractions and Alanine Aminotransferase Elevation Detected During Overseas Health Examination
Disease description:
I’m planning to travel abroad soon and need to undergo a health examination. The examination includes “occasional ventricular premature contractions” and “alanine aminotransferase (ALT).” Could you please explain the difference between these two items in the context of pre-travel health screening?
Occasional premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) can occur in healthy individuals and are not necessarily abnormal. It is recommended to undergo a 24-hour Holter monitor (ambulatory electrocardiogram) to quantify the total number of PVCs over 24 hours and determine whether they carry clinical or pathological significance.
Additionally, elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is a marker of liver function impairment, suggesting possible hepatic dysfunction. However, the specific underlying cause of the abnormal liver function requires further diagnostic evaluation and analysis.
