What diseases commonly affect the kidneys?
Disease description:
During a physical examination, poor kidney function was detected, raising concerns about developing kidney disease in the future. What types of kidney diseases commonly occur?
Kidney-related diseases are relatively common and generally include diminished kidney function as well as specific renal disorders—such as glomerulonephritis or nephrotic syndrome—and conditions like hydronephrosis or kidney stones. If a patient develops kidney disease, symptoms may include hematuria (blood in the urine), proteinuria (excess protein in the urine), flank pain, or edema (swelling). In such cases, a kidney biopsy is recommended to establish a definitive diagnosis.
