What symptoms can elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) cause?
Disease description:
My colleague reviewed their test report and noticed that the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level is elevated. Could you please explain, Doctor, what symptoms may result from an elevated TSH level?
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is an endocrine hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that promotes the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. Elevated TSH levels may indicate hypothyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism. We recommend consulting an endocrinologist at a hospital, undergoing further evaluation—including thyroid ultrasound and testing for thyroid-related antibodies—and discussing your clinical symptoms with the physician to determine whether pharmacologic treatment is warranted. Additionally, be sure to schedule regular follow-up visits to monitor thyroid function.
